It’s October, and you know what that means: Oktoberfests, with lots of beer and German food.

Blue Mountain Ski Area is celebrating Oktoberfest along with its annual harvest fest this year.

WHERE: Blue Mountain Ski Area, 1660 Blue Mountain Drive, Palmerton

COST: Free admission, parking

INFORMATION: 610-826-7700, skibluemt.com

“We’ve added a second weekend this year, and it runs at the same time as our Mountain Harvest Festival,” said Heidi Lutz, director of sales and marketing. “We also opened up a rock wall this year, and have a ropes course and laser tag. They will all be open. We want it to be for everybody and make a full day of it.”

Oktoberfest will be in the valley at the base of the mountain, and the Adventure Center will be a large Bavarian beer tent.

“It will feel like you are in Germany,” Lutz said. “We’ll have additional tented areas as well. Come enjoy Bavarian beer and take the kids to the harvest fest for family-friendly activities.”

The Mountain Harvest Festival will include pony rides, a corn maze, pumpkin picking, sand art and other activities for the kids. There will also be scenic lift rides, ziplining, Barnyard Buddies agricultural program and a bounce house.

The beer garden will feature live music. One of the bands will be John Stevens’ Double Shot. This will be the band’s first time performing at Blue Mountain Ski Area.

“The band formed back in 1995, and since then, we’ve played numerous engagements throughout the country and recorded 18 CDs,” said John Stevens, lead vocals and accordion. “We play polka music. We’re not your grandparents’ polka band, though. It’s a lively music, more of a country-sounding polka with more of a contemporary sound.”

Stevens said they will do about five sets during Oktoberfest on Sunday. Another act will perform on Saturday: Joe Stanky and the Cadets.

Of course, no Oktoberfest would be complete without traditional German cuisines.

“We’ll have lots of bratwurst and other traditional German foods. There will be very starchy foods like potato pancakes, too,” Lutz said. “And if you are still hungry, Slopeside Pub and Grill will be open as well. You can have a great outdoor dining experience.”

The ceremonial keg tapping will be at noon, and then the fun begins.

In addition to all the food, drinks, games and entertainment, there will also be various vendors there with their products or information on services.
