Bad weather causes big damages overnight in Bavaria

MUNICH, Germany, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) — Violent storms on Tuesday night has caused big damages of up to one million euros overnight in southern German state of Bavaria.

In Munich alone, the capital and biggest city in Bavaria, the damages would be about 500,000 euros. A 80-square-meter tin roof was blown onto the street, and many torn branches and fallen trees have caused road and railway traffic problems, forcing lots of cancellations.

Bavarian emergency forces reported more than a hundred of operations overnight, as the autumn storm “Golzalo” toppled trees, overturned roofs and clipped power lines.

A woman from the district of Starnberg was so far the only registered wounded with an eye injury, when a tree fell on her car and smashed the windshield.

In addition, violent storms and cold temperature brought new problems to evacuees living in contemporary tents.

The situation was especially urgent in Bavaria’s second biggest city of Nuremberg. Two tents, accommodating about 200 evacuees, were destroyed by the heavy rains and storms.

The Bavarian government was expecting more arrivals of evacuees. As winter nears, more helps are needed, since the evacuees are now living in the overcrowded tents, which are not equipped with heating systems.
