Annual ’10 Days in Tosa’ promises dining steals, good eats

Eating is always in season, but for this year’s 10 Days in Tosa dining event, consumers can expect a few new perks to make the affair a bit more user-friendly.

New this year is an online, interactive map that allows users to select a location and view a restaurant’s logo, contact information, website link and a description of this year’s deals, said Wauwatosa Chamber of Commerce marketing coordinator Lisa Kuimjian.

The fifth annual event celebrating food in Wauwatosa runs Sept. 14t o 23.

“September is a great month,” Kuimjian said of the event’s timing. “People want to get out and drive around a bit.”

About 35 restaurants around town — from as far north as Corner Bakery Café offering $5 cinnamon rolls with a medium latte to as far south as Maxie’s, offering promotions with a $50 purchase — are listed on the revamped website, Kuimjian said.

“People were curious as to what each restaurant is going to offer,” she said of the upgrade. “You can’t print everyone’s menu. The interactive map has been a really nice thing this year.”

Creating the deals

Each restaurant comes up with their own deals, said Kuimjian, who added that’s another new feature this year. In past years, eateries were required to offer more regimented deals, like $5, $10 or $15 options, she said.

For some businesses, the price points didn’t work and restaurateurs felt constrained.

“What’s different this year is we let the restaurants offer whatever deal they want,” she said.

Dean Leffler, owner of Leff’s Lucky Town, 7208 W. State St., said his business is offering a build-your-own burger option every day during the event. The special deal is usually only offered on Mondays, he said.

Leff’s customers will receive a card printed with a list of ingredients including cheeses, vegetables, sauces, bacon and much more. Diners can select anything and everything they’d like on their burger — all for five bucks, Leffler said.

“That’s a good deal,” he said.

Leffler encouraged all diners to check out Wauwatosa’s restaurants.

“You’re guaranteed to find what you want and have a good time,” he said.

Foodies also will find a QR code on all advertising material that, when scanned, displays information about the 10-day event, Kuimjian said.
