Afke Oenema

NEW BAVARIA — Afke Oenema, 52, of New Bavaria, died Friday, February 15, 2013, at her New Bavaria home.

Her Legacy… She was born March 10, 1960, to Sijbren Hiemstra and Maaike Hiemstra – De Groot in Klooster Anjum. On November 19, 1981, Afke married Rinke Oenema. Afke was a homemaker and very loving wife and mother. She enjoyed photography, cooking, and gardening. She attended St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Holgate.

Her Family… Afke is survived by her loving husband, Rinke; son, Wietze Oenema, New Bavaria; daughter, Maaike Oenema, New Bavaria; and son Sijbren Oenema, New Bavaria; father, Sijbren Hiemstra, The Netherlands; sisters Tineke and Pytsje; and brothers Siebe and Jaring, all of The Netherlands. She was preceded in death by her mother, Maaike Hiemstra – De Groot.

Her Farewell Services… Friends will be received in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Holgate, on Friday, February 22, 2013, from 1-3 p.m. The celebration of Afke’s life will be at 3 p.m. with Pastor Tamara Wood officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Township Cemetery, County Road 16-C, New Bavaria. Contributions can be made in Afke’s memory to The Turning Point with Dr. David Jeremiah. Zachrich Funeral Home has been entrusted with Afke’s funeral arrangements.
